About Eric

Eric Novod is a Jersey City, New Jersey-based drummer, educator, writer, and producer. Since completing his Master’s Degree in Jazz History and Research from Rutgers University in 2007, he has rooted himself in several musical worlds:

As an educator, Eric is currently the Head of Performing Arts at Dwight School, a global IB school in NYC. He previously served as the Director of Education at Lakehouse Music Academy in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Eric has taught New Jersey’s finest young musicians at both the college level (Rutgers University, Brookdale Community College) and high school level (The Peddie School, Hanover Park High School). He is certified to teach music and social studies in New Jersey, has led award-winning performance ensembles, maintains a private drum lesson roster, and has developed curriculum at Hanover Park High School, Lakehouse Music Academy, and Dwight School.

As a writer, Eric has been a frequent contributor to Modern Drummer Magazine, served as a staff writer and editor at www.jazz.com, and has contributed entries to multiple music encyclopedias.  As a drummer/producer, Eric has toured the world with Hellcat Records recording artist, Westbound Train, and has performed/recorded with Obi Fernandez, Alex & Janel, Alex Brumel, deSoL, Marc Muller, Lauren Marsh, Tara Dente, and stillhungry, among many others. 

Eric has studied with Bernard Purdie, Billy Ward, and Alan Michaels, and is proud to be endorsed by Paiste Cymbals, Pro-Mark Drumsticks, and Evans Drumheads. He is the creator and operator of The Groove Index (www.thegrooveindex.com), which is also newly housed on www.ericnovod.com.
